ESCOTO: Global stages. The next wave of Guadalajara

ESCOTO’s story with electronic music started early. Growing up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, he remembers watching concerts from Tiësto, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren, buying CDs and imagining himself one day inside that world.

By 14, he had already started learning how to play. Years later, during the pandemic, that passion became something more serious: ESCOTO Music, a project rooted in melody, discipline and a long-term vision.

Since then, his path has taken him across Mexico and abroad, with appearances in Ibiza, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and New York, as well as Tulum, Monterrey, Cancún and Guadalajara. Along the way, he has played stages and venues such as Blue Marlin Ibiza, Zamna, ADE Amsterdam, Dreamfields Guadalajara, Bar Américas and Strana Guadalajara.

Today, ESCOTO is not only focused on playing music. Through Sonance, his label and event concept, he is building a platform for immersive electronic music experiences. After three editions in Tulum, Sonance is now preparing a new phase in Guadalajara: a city he believes has everything to become one of Mexico’s strongest electronic music hubs.

This year, ESCOTO is also part of the energy surrounding Sounds Cup Festival, a multi-date event in Guadalajara featuring names such as Goom Gum, Magit Cacoon, The Element, RBØR, Themba, Edu Imbernon, Mike Gannu, Heîk, Ivan Massa, Magdalena, ZAMNA Sound System and more.

In conversation with Futuremag, ESCOTO talks about the challenges of building a project, the importance of social media, his advice for new producers and what comes next for Sonance.

What have been the biggest challenges in your career so far?

One of the biggest challenges has been building the project from the ground up. Not only making people know the name, but creating a real community and a solid identity around the music.

Looking ahead, how do you visualize the evolution of ESCOTO?

I see ESCOTO growing in both clubs and festivals.

Clubs allow you to create a deeper journey and connect with people in a more intimate way. Festivals bring a different kind of energy and a bigger platform.

But for me, everything starts with emotions and after the studio. The sound, the melodies and the emotion behind each track are what truly define the project.

Social media has become a major part of electronic music culture. How do you see it as a DJ and producer?

Today, social media is essential. It is not only about promotion; it is a way to show your creativity, your process and the world behind the music.

I started by focusing on playing and gaining real experience. Later, I understood the importance of communicating the project online. Now, with my studio remodeling and new equipment, I want to show more of that process, from behind the scenes to unboxings, recommendations and creative moments.

People connect more when they see the real journey, not only the final result.

If ESCOTO had to start from zero, what would you do first?

I would build stronger foundations from the beginning.

I would study music theory, production and DJ technique in a more structured way before launching the project. Sometimes artists want to move too fast, but having a solid base makes everything stronger in the long term.

Today, I understand that a music project is not only about playing or releasing tracks. It is about preparation, identity, consistency, content and community.

What advice would you give to someone starting in music production or entering the electronic scene?

Trust yourself, trust your project and trust the process, but understand that trust has to come with work.

Music requires patience, discipline and many hours. You need to learn the details: tonalities, BPM, melodies, styles and how to translate an idea into something that connects with people.

Do not compare your beginning with someone else’s advanced stage. Every project has its own timing.

What is coming next for Sonance?

Sonance is becoming more than a party. It is a label, an event organization and a creative platform.

After three editions in Tulum, including events at Mia Tulum, the next step is to bring that energy back to Guadalajara. The idea is to create immersive experiences with a clear identity, strong production and a real connection with the community.

I want Sonance to feel international, but with a local soul.

Guadalajara is entering a strong moment for electronic music. What does it mean for you to be part of that growth?

It means a lot because I am proudly from Guadalajara.

The city has talent, audience, culture and a very special energy. Being part of this movement motivates me because it is not only about me as an artist; it is about helping build something bigger through music, events and community.

For me, putting Guadalajara on the map is part of the mission.

Sounds Cup Festival is bringing a strong lineup to Guadalajara. How do you see your role inside this moment?

I see it as an opportunity to be part of something bigger for the city, but also as a big responsibility.

For Sounds Cup, I am involved not only as an artist, but as one of the main organizers behind the full series of events. That means being part of the vision, the curation, the experience and the process of bringing a strong international lineup to Guadalajara.

Sounds Cup is bringing artists like Goom Gum, Magit Cacoon, The Element, RBØR, Themba, Edu Imbernon, Mike Gannu, ZAMNA Sound System and more. Having that level of lineup in Guadalajara shows that the city is ready for bigger things.

For me, it is not only about playing. It is about helping build the scene, raising the standard of the experience and showing that Mexico can create events with an international level.

Besides Mexico, where are people listening to your music the most?

After Mexico, the countries where people listen to my music the most are Colombia, the United States and Argentina.

That is something that motivates me a lot because it shows that the project is starting to connect outside of my own country. For me, seeing the music travel and reach different places is a sign that the sound can keep growing internationally.

Is there an artist you dream of playing B2B with?

Cassian.

He is one of the artists I connect with the most because of the way he balances melody, emotion and energy. His sound has a very strong identity, and I think a B2B with him would be something very special.

Is there a phrase or idea that defines you?

“No subestimarse y seguir adelante.”

For me, that means trusting yourself, even when the process is difficult. A lot of times, the biggest limitation is the way you see your own potential.

You have to keep moving, keep learning and keep building. If you believe in the project and you work with discipline, things start to connect.

ESCOTO represents an artist willing to build from the inside out: with discipline, intention and a strong connection to where he comes from.

For him, the mission is not only to play the scene. It is to help shape it.

Global stages. Creating Guadalajara´s new movement.
