Inside Solar: Van Broket’s Vision for the Next Generation of DJs

From the heart of Mexico City’s underground, Van Broket has carved his path with resilience, groove, and a clear vision. As a DJ, producer, and co-founder of Solar, he’s not only building a brand but also nurturing a community and opening doors for the next generation of artists. Futuremag sat down with him to talk about his journey, the impact of Solar, and what’s next for this rising talent.

Early Steps

Van, how do you remember your first encounters with electronic music and what pushed you to pursue it professionally as a DJ and producer?

Music has always been part of my life thanks to my parents, especially disco. In middle school, some of my friends listened to psycho and psytrance those were my first contacts with electronic music, although I didn’t fully understand it then. In high school, I started to recognize different genres and discovered I really loved it.

Around that time, I began working with friends at versatile parties, handling audio and lights. They taught me to play all kinds of music, but I always wanted something different: to step out of that comfort zone and play at the parties where I truly felt connected. That’s when I decided to take it seriously, even though I didn’t know anyone in the scene.
Later, I realized that producing was essential to open doors and create more opportunities.

Challenges and Breakthroughs

From Mexico City you’ve built a solid name. What has been the biggest challenge in your journey within the national and international scene?

The first and hardest challenge was learning to connect with people in the industry because I didn’t know where to go, who to talk to, or what places to attend. Things happened slowly, and another challenge I still face sometimes is staying consistent and patient. But with focus and hard work, I know things will come.

Is there a key moment that marked a before and after in your career?
Yes, two in particular. The first was my debut at Am Local, where the headliners were Aaron Sevilla and Omar Labastida. That night changed many things for me. The second was much more recent: creating Solar with my partners.

Solar: Brand and Community

Solar is not just a collective—it’s also a brand that has built strong identity in the scene. What does Solar mean to you personally and professionally?
To me, Solar means family. I always wanted to have a group of friends who shared the same passion and the same dream. Professionally, Solar represents consistency, because it has built a place in the scene through our joint effort.

How would you describe the essence of Solar’s events compared to other projects in Mexico City?
What defines our parties is the music we curate and the club essence we deliver. We want to guarantee a great experience: high-quality DJs, top music, and venues where people can feel comfortable and truly enjoy the night.

Looking back, what impact do you think Solar has had on Mexico’s electronic music scene?
Working professionally has made people recognize Solar and be part of it. Each of us has a role design, event planning, venue scouting, promotion and that structure has given the brand weight. We’ve also created spaces for new talents who share our musical vision. I think that’s the real impact: Solar is community-driven and people value that.

Solar Studio

Beyond the events, there’s Solar Studio. How did the idea of creating this space come about and what role does it play in developing emerging artists?
The idea was born because we wanted something of our own. We already had the concept in mind, and when I left my previous workplace, everything aligned. Shortly after, my partner also left, and we launched Solar Studio.
The studio’s role is to train serious artists, share our experience, and show them what it really takes to be a DJ or producer. It’s a career you have to take seriously if you want to live from it and achieve your goals.

What makes Solar Studio different from other production or learning spaces in Mexico?
We wanted people to feel comfortable and open with us. Our classes are one-on-one, tailored to each person’s needs. We don’t work with groups, and that freedom helps them learn faster and correct mistakes more easily.

Which recent talents from the studio have surprised you the most?
Several have great potential. Nea, one of the first women to study with us, is now active with gigs. Lesk has grown in Minimal Deep Tech, Tony Pampa in Afro House, and Paola Sorokin and Denebner are also performing now. Their growth has been amazing, and I’m sure many more will come.

Solar Anniversary

A new Solar anniversary is coming. What can you tell us about the celebration?
It will be a massive party. We’re taking care of every detail so people can enjoy it to the fullest. I can’t reveal much more you have to live it.

What emotions come up when you see how much the project has grown and now reaching this milestone?
We’re very happy. Even though it’s only been two years, the amount of work has been huge, and seeing that it’s paid off makes us proud.

Can you share any surprises the community can expect at this anniversary?
This year, we’re taking everyone to space. That’s all I can say 12 hours of music, from the first DJ to the last. You can’t miss it.

Artistic Vision and Future

How would you define your current sound compared to the Van Broket from a few years ago?
Now my sound is very groove-driven. In my sets, I always want to transmit party energy, keep people dancing, and make them eager for the next track.

What role do your Mexican roots play in your musical proposal?
In my recent productions, I’ve been experimenting with instruments from our ancestors. I haven’t achieved the exact sound I want yet, but it’s something I definitely want to integrate into my identity.

What’s next for you after the anniversary? Any releases, collaborations, or projects you can share?
I’m working on an Afro House track with Fernando Praga, although we don’t have a release date yet. I also have a couple of Tech House tracks ready to send out—I want to sign with an important label this year. And if everything aligns, I plan to take my project and Solar to Europe next year.

Final Reflection

If you had to define Solar in one word, what would it be?
Resilience. Because I know how hard it is to start in this world without contacts or capital. We’ve gone through tough moments, but we’ve learned to keep moving forward in the best way possible.

What message would you like to leave to the community that has supported you?
First of all, thank you. To everyone who has believed in me—without you, this wouldn’t work. Not everyone can stay on this path, but I’m grateful for every contribution that helped me get here. There’s still a lot to achieve, and I’m not where I want to be yet, but I know the moment will come. For now, I’m enjoying the journey.

Van Broket’s story is one of persistence, community, and vision. With Solar expanding both as a brand and a studio, and with international plans on the horizon, his path is only getting brighter. Mexico City’s underground has found a name to watch—and his groove is just beginning to resonate further.
